Abstract

The world is changing—it is a multicultural world. However, nationalism—tribal identity—has emerged in reaction. Populism demands a return to traditional religious values and national identity. Immigrants are feared as culturally and “racially” different. Macho men worry that women and gays are taking over. Into this mix of fear and disorder, dictators, such as Putin, Orbán, Erdogan, and others step in to restore order, and attempt to restore the past values of their religion and culture. It is a global reactionary movement.
