The Illiberal Forces at the Ballot Initiative explores how far-right and illiberal forces are gaining or not electoral support taking into consideration the national context. In each country, a different combination of history and political culture, as well as of institutions and leadership, affects the success or failure of illiberal parties at gathering popular approval. The year 2024 accumulates elections deadlines in many countries across the continent, giving us in real time a unique snapshot of the world’s public opinion and the state of democracy and (il)liberal values.
